Three scientists are today awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine these scientist have discovered the therapy
which have revolutionized the treatment of some of the most dangerous parasitic diseases in the world the Nobel committee announced on Monday.
William C. Campbell along with Satoshi Omura who have deveolped totally a new drug Avermectin. They are shareing the prize with Youyou Tu, who discovered Artemisinin, this drug is drastically reducing the death rates from malaria and also is cheaper than other.
Parasitic worms which around the world have caused the disease like river blindness and lymphatic. The disease had affected third of the world’s population, particularly in the region of sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and South Asia.
“These two discoveries have provided humankind with powerful new means to combat these debilitating diseases that affect hundreds of millions of people annually,” the noble committee declared in it's statement. The committee later on added that “The consequences in terms of improved human health and reduced suffering are immeasurable.”
The new Malaria drug which has been quite a boon for poor people which will also fight the mosquito-borne disease which is called as single-cell parasites that make their way in the red blood cells and destroys them,it also kills more than 450,000 people a year, most of them children around the world. The scientists getting noble prize are all from different country and they have inspired that more people work for humanity. The medicine has been the boon to poor people who are living below the poverty line who cannot afford costly medicine.
